Jack Rutberg Fine Arts in Los Angeles will present a formidable exhibition of works by the major 20th century sculptor from Mexico, Francisco Zuñiga (1912-1998), beginning September 21 and continuing through December 1, 2001. The most ambitious exhibition of Zuñiga works in the U.S. in more than a decade, this museum quality exhibition features important large and small scale sculpture, drawings, and selected original graphic works on paper.
The museum quality exhibition is accompanied by the new publication of the authoritative book, "Francisco Zuñiga, A Catalogue Raisonne," documenting Zuñiga's complete body of work in sculpture. This much anticipated and indispensable reference will be available during the exhibition.
Born in Costa Rica, Zuñiga moved to Mexico in 1936 where his work increasingly gained wide recognition throughout Latin America, Europe and the United States. Notably, Zuñiga's importance was early realized in California, where his reputation and legions of collectors--both private and with museums--has been particularly formidable for decades. Monumental sculptures by Zuñiga can be found at entrances and sculpture gardens of important Southern California museums such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, UCLA Sculpture Gardens, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, and San Diego Museum of Art. Francisco Zuñiga's works are included in major museum collections internationally.
FRANCISCO ZUÑIGA: A MAJOR EXHIBITION OF SCULPTURE & SELECT WORKS ON PAPER is presented with the support of the Consulate General of Mexico, Trade Commission of Mexico, Fundación Zuñiga Laborde, A.C., Aeromexpress Cargo, and Mexicana Airlines. The exhibition extends from September 21 through December 1 at Jack Rutberg Fine Arts Gallery, located at 357 N. La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 10:00 - 6:00; Saturday 10:00 - 5:00. For additional information, phone (323) 938-5222.
